There’s a very specific morning in London when the air shifts. You feel it stepping out at 6 AM in Bermondsey — the damp chill has set in, daylight is arriving later, and suddenly nobody in their right mind wants to open a lunchbox to find a cold, fridge-numbed salad.
At Honest Foods, our menu changes aren’t dreamt up in a marketing meeting. They happen because our kitchen team listens to what the seasons — and the crews we feed — are actually asking for.
When you’re seven hours into a freezing location shoot in the middle of a field or grinding through a marathon edit in Soho, you don’t need “rabbit food.” You need warmth, depth, and proper fuel that doesn’t send you straight into a 3 PM carb coma.
Here’s a peek behind our pass at what’s stepping down, what’s taking over our stoves, and what our chefs are cooking right now.
Out With the Summer Gluts: What We’re Saying Goodbye To
Eating with the seasons means accepting that summer produce is done. When you force summer ingredients into a November menu, you end up paying double for watery, greenhouse-grown veg flown halfway across the globe.
So, we’ve packed away:
- Field tomatoes & sweet salad peppers: Unless they’re slow-confited with garlic and thyme, pale winter supermarket tomatoes have no place on our trays.
- Courgettes & delicate leaves: Thin baby leaves turn to mush the second they sit near steam. They’ve made way for greens that can take some real heat.
- Soft berries & stone fruits: We’re leaving the berries behind and leaning into rich spiced fruits, citrus oils, and dark, sharp pickles.
In With the Frost-Sweetened Heavyweights
Cold weather gets a bad rap, but for British growers, a hard morning frost is pure kitchen magic. Freezing temperatures shock root vegetables into converting their starches into natural sugars, making winter crops naturally sweeter, richer, and far more satisfying.

Right now, our delivery crates are stacked with:
- Cavolo Nero, Collard Greens & Curly Kale: Sturdy, peppery brassicas that actually thrive when braised or flash-charred, locking in bright emerald colour and crunch.
- The Root Brigade: Carrots, parsnips, leeks, and sweet potatoes that caramelise around the edges when roasted hot.
- Winter Squash & Pumpkin: Packed with beta-carotene, velvety when baked, and great at carrying bold aromatics like zhoug, chilli, and garlic.
- Sharp Ferments & House Pickles: Because hearty winter food needs a wake-up call, we’re balancing our rich stews with gut-friendly kimchi, pickled red cabbage, and sharp pickled red onions.
What’s Hitting Your Plates
Here is a taste of what our new menu entails:
- Irish Stew: Rich, slow-simmered diced lamb shoulder over buttery colcannon mash, paired with braised kale and cavolo nero.
- Chicken Paprikash: Hungarian-style braised chicken legs with tender orzo, sour cream, and slow-roasted root veg — parsnips, carrots, and sweet leeks.
- Mexican Picadillo: Deep, earthy spiced minced beef spooned over crushed cheesy sweet potato, cut through with the bite of house-pickled red onion.
- Zhoug-Baked Pumpkin Wedge: Thick wedges of seasonal pumpkin roasted in fragrant green zhoug, piled high with spinach and lemon new potatoes, salty crumbled feta, and toasted pumpkin seeds.
- Lentil Cottage Pie: Richly seasoned brown lentils baked under a golden crust, flanked by slow-roasted sweet carrots and minted peas.
Global Street Comfort
- Fanesca (Grain Chowder): A creamy South American-inspired grain chowder served with nutty quinoa, fried pitta chips, sweet golden plantain, and crumbled feta.
- Slow-Cooked Beef Lasagne: The ultimate comfort classic, served with crunchy garlic bread and a crisp Tuscan kale slaw to keep things fresh.
The Kitchen Philosophy
Cooking this way isn’t about ticking seasonal boxes. It’s about respect: respect for what the soil produces best right now, and respect for the teams working on the other end of our hot boxes.
When food is cooked fresh from scratch using produce that actually belongs in the ground this month, it tastes better, fuels longer, and leaves zero midday slump in its wake.
