We’re proud to share that Honest Foods has been awarded the Mayor of London’s Good Work Standard — a recognition that doesn’t come from ticking a box, but from a genuine look at how we treat the people who make this business what it is.
If you haven’t come across it before, the Good Work Standard is City Hall’s own accreditation for employers who go beyond the legal minimum on how they support their teams — covering things like fair pay, good line management, health and wellbeing, and real opportunities to grow and progress within the company. It’s not something you can buy or fast-track. It’s earned by showing, with evidence, that these things are actually happening day to day.
For us, that’s not a new direction — it’s just the first time it’s been officially recognised. We’ve been a London Living Wage employer for some time now, which means every single person on our team, from our newest starter to our most senior chef, is paid a wage that actually reflects the cost of living in this city — not just the legal minimum. We’ve always believed that “honest” food starts with treating the people who make it honestly too.
We’ve also built real progression into how we run the kitchen. Some of our proudest stories aren’t about a dish or a client — they’re about people. Take Chef Lekan, who started with us as a KP (kitchen porter) and has grown into a genuine kitchen superstar in his own right — that’s not an accident, it’s the kind of pathway we try to build for everyone who joins us.
Winning the Good Work Standard is a nice bit of external validation for something we’d be doing anyway — but it also means something for anyone thinking about working with us. Whether you’re a production trusting us to feed your crew for months on end, or an office considering us for your team’s lunches, you’re working with a company that’s been independently checked on how it treats its own people. That matters more than it might sound.
We’ll keep doing the work. This is just nice proof that it’s being noticed.
